Monday was a musical day indeed in Malaysia when Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak met with Yuvan Shankar Raja, the internationally-acclaimed young Indian composer and singer.
Najib thanked Yuvan for gracing the Kuala Lumpur International Indian Music Festival held on Saturday, 15 December 2012 in Bukit Jalil, where he also gave a rousing performance much to the delight of his fans.
While Najib had to miss the event on Saturday due to a prior official engagement, he invited Yuvan to Putrajaya before he returned to India.
Yuvan’s father, who is the illustrious musical genius, Illaiyaraja also performed at the event.
Najib described Illaiyaraja as a genius of the Indian music industry and as such, Malaysia was privileged to host both Yuvan and his father at the recent music festival.
The Prime Minister also enquired about Yuvan’s involvement in the music industry and heard for himself the achievements of both Yuvan and Illaiyaraja.
Giving credit to Tourism Malaysia for playing a vital role in organising the event that enabled thousands of Yuvan’s fans in Malaysia to enjoy his unique performance, Najib noted that the event was a success with a strong turnout of about 30,000 people.
Yuvan conveyed his father’s best wishes and regards to the Prime Minister, who reciprocated and sends his regards to Illaiyaraja.
Yuvan took the opportunity to praise Malaysia, saying that he does not see Malaysia as a different country and that Malaysia is like a second home to him as he and his family spend most of their holidays here together.
He also told the Prime Minister that he has been coming to Malaysia since his childhood and he and his father are even considering joining the Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) program.
The Prime Minister welcomed this and encouraged them both to participate in this program.
Yuvan also shared with the Prime Minister that his dream is to win a Grammy award, after which, he will surely perform once again in Malaysia.
Prime Minister expressed his hope to watch this show in the near future.
